Abstract :
Boilers and other forms of steam generators are widely used in the process and power generating industries and for heating purposes. In the US, according to most recent available estimates, approximately 23% out of the 81 quad-Btu of energy consumed during 1991 passed through such equipment. Relatively small improvements in operating conditions could have a major impact on energy consumption could such changes be implemented for a large fraction of the steam generating equipment. A starting point for detection of possible improvements is usually quantification or current or proposed operations and identification of improvement alternatives. In this paper the application of computerized models to accomplish such objectives os described. A case study is used to illustrate the application of the integrated computerized models by assessing improvement opportunities for an existing cogeneration boiler installation
