Abstract
The author describes how retrofitting can be a cost-effective way of replacing LV and HV distribution switchgear, keeping outage work and power system disruptions to a minimum, whilst upgrading the switchgear, control, protection and drawings. With the anticipated minimum of 25 years plant life extension, the large capital funding that would be required to replace whole switchboards can be avoided by the use of retrofitting in asset replacement programmes
