Abstract
In this paper the new converter topology using a half bridge inverter for the switched reluctance motor drives is proposed. The proposed SRM drives are supplied by the AC pulse voltage source, while the conventional drives are supplied by DC voltage source. The SRM using the proposed converter maintain the high efficiency though the power switches are reduced. The full DC link voltage is applied to suppress the tail current quickly. It enables extension of the dwell angle to get more positive torque. The validity of the proposed SRM converter is verified by experimental results
