Abstract
Summary form only given. Modern micromachining enables the fabrication of passive and active optical components, such as lenses, gratings and fan-out elements. These components are ideal for building compact microoptical systems. We will summarize the potential and limitations of these elements, as well as their integration into systems for the case of fiber optic interconnects and switches.
