Author_Institution :

Abstract :
The statistics package S-Plus, provided by Statistical Sciences, Inc. implements elements and concepts from the Object-Oriented (OO) paradigm which may be new to members of the intended user community. This paper is a first step toward providing new S-Plus users a background in OO which can assist them in using the object-oriented features of S-Plus to better advantage. This paper focuses on S-Plus as described by Chambers and Hastie (1992), and by the S-PLUS Programmer Manual (1992)
