Abstract
This paper addresses some most commonly observed issues of traditional Michelson Interferometer in processing the experiment and consequently delivers a proposition for a digital modification. In the modification, the photodiodes and processing circuits are manipulated to count the interference fringes; meanwhile a stepper motor is exerted in driving the adjusting wheel of the reflective mirror. The system, which applies MCU as its central processing unit, automatically manifests the wavelength of light through the relative calculation by exploiting the LCD real-time displayed number of fringes and the distance moved of the reflective mirror. The digitally modified Michelson Interferometer does simplify steps of the experiment and simultaneously improve the experimental precision substantially.
