Abstract
The present situation: the Hungarian forest area is 1853,2 thousand hectare, so 20% is the forest coverage. The species distribution is very original, when 87% of forest area has broadly species (EU countries: about 43%). The afforestation program: 25 years 750 thousand hectare new forest. The total harvest about 7000 thousand m3 pro year, so the country need softwood import, and cellulose and paper import. Hungary has a great export of hardwood lumber (oak, lack locust, beech), and chipboard export. Between wood products the furniture products has the greatest ratio. The forest based industry has 100000 employees, so it´s a important industry. In our country there is engineer training in the Faculty of Forestry and the Faculty of Wood Sciences in Sopron.
