Abstract :
In this paper the economic dispatch (ED) problem is solved using particle swarm optimization (PSO) technique. This technique is discussed in details along with a case study. An enhanced approach to overcome trapping in local minimum is also explained. As it is known combined cycle generators cost curve are non-continues, one of the best ways to solve an ED for a non-continues cost curve is using PSO. For a first step a system with ten generators will be solved then one of the generators will be replaced with a Co-gen.
