Abstract :
In general the power system of an offshore platform consists of synchronous generators, transformers, converters and large induction motors. The converters can be a significant part of the total system load and the system voltage waveshape is therefore distorted. This distortion is due to the non-linear nature of the converter thyristors. The aim of this paper is to relate the parameters of a single synchronous generator to the a.c. voltage distortion at the machine terminals on isolated systems. This in turn will demonstrate the possibility of providing measurement techniques using the voltage and current waveforms for estimating the parameters of a synchronous generator
