Abstract
This paper presents a residential gateway (RG) architecture that addresses the problems of bandwidth allocation for multiple home appliances and services in home area network (HAN). Our architecture approaches the problems by focusing on two important factors: automatic device discovery and dynamic bandwidth allocation. The architecture optimizes the utilization of the limited bandwidth to achieve quality of service (QoS). A prototype is built based on this architecture to demonstrate the QoS feature that we have implemented in a residential gateway.
