Facing the global environmental problems and energy crisis, landscape architecture appeals for the sustainable landscape design. Environment, economics, equity, aesthetics, experience, and ethics are the connotations of the sustainable landscape design. Based on the study of the themes of the sustainable landscape design, this paper points out that in the context of rapid urbanization the sustainable landscape design should be realized by the coupled human and natural systems, the perceptions of the process relationships in the landscape design and the interconnections between the global-regional-local scales and the landscape design should be concerned. Then an ideology system and framework of sustainable landscape design is proposed and hope to supply some basis for landscape research and practice.
