The paper explores the Urban Acupuncture as a strategy in Urban Renewal. It argues that urban acupuncture is an approach of urban renewal which uses the smallest effort in the critical point to get the maximum result just like the ancient Chinese "acupuncture" (medicine). Three types of urban acupuncture, including Public space, Flagship building and Festival market are analyzed through the case study. Then the paper compares the differences among the urban acupuncture, large-scale urban redevelopment and small-scale urban renewal and proposes the two key elements of urban acupuncture strategies, which are the choice of location and urban catalyst selection. Besides, the characteristic is summarized that it can make city\´s development more positive, healthy and sustainable, and it also plays a role as the inspiration and reference for the practice for China\´s urban renewal.
