Abstract :
This paper presents a simplified genetic algorithm approach for the tuning of PID controllers. A new approach which greatly reduces the computational requirement for implementing the various steps in genetic algorithm (crossover and mutation) is presented. The algorithm was used for the online tuning of the controller in a temperature regulating system. The results show that the approach was successful in improving parameters such as rise time and ISE.
