  • Abstract
Shadow mask plasma display panel (SM-PDP) possesses several interesting features such as simple manufacturing process, low cost, short response time etc. However, its performance on the luminous efficacy, power consumption and production cost is still unsatisfactory Dielectric layers, formed on the front and rear panels, are in series connections with discharge space. The relative permittivity and thickness of the dielectric layer will definitely affect the discharge process by alternating the voltage applied across the discharge space, and luminous efficacy is expected to be improved with certain dielectric layer. In this paper, the discharge characteristics in the discharge cell with different dielectric layers are compared by simulations with OOPIC, which would be of great importance in improving SM-PDP luminous efficacy.
