Abstract :
In order to find hidden cascading outage caused by protective relays, methods for modeling, simulating and online setting-checking of protective relays are studied here. A user-defined model is proposed based on a kind of scrip language and concept of component firstly. Based on that, the power system simulator in a commercial dispatcher training simulator is embedded with protective relay simulator, which can be utilized to train operators under some typical cascading outages more realistically. Meanwhile, a new online application software named as protective relay early warning is designed and implemented in a commercial energy management system to check protective relay setting online. Any warning of invalid setting of relay can be timely raised to awake operator to concern hidden cascading outage in relays. A case study and some results from field site applications are reported.
