Abstract :
In the report we analyze the scheme of a sectioned relativistic amplifier, based on two backward-wave oscillators (BWO), connected in series and pierced with a common electron beam. The backward-wave oscillators operate below their excitation threshold and are separated by a cut-off waveguide. Working in regime of regenerative amplification, backward-wave oscillator allows one to achieve high gain. Besides, due to internal feedback the device shows high adaptive quality to variations of electron beam parameters. That is why a sectioned BWO amplifier seems a very attractive microwave source with controlled amplitude and phase. The operation of such an amplifier was studied using a one- dimensional non-stationary model.
