    This paper provides a summary of one of the presentations planned under the Panel Session on "Network Solutions Using FACTS" sponsored by the DC and FACTS Subcommittee. This paper relates to the first part of the session and presents a brief description of the different Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS) Controllers. This paper is designed to be accompanied by the presentation material.
