  • Abstract
    The analysis of wide area power system events is important for the successful operation of the system and the optimal design and configuration of protection and control systems, as well as System Integrity Protection Schemes (SIPS). The paper analyzes the types of system events, available data sources, existing analysis tools and requirements for the development of automatic hierarchical event analysis systems. The need for common configuration data, event reporting and disturbance recording formats are discussed. The importance of accurate time-synchronization and methods to achieve it are also described.
