Abstract :
For pt. I see ibid., p.694-700 (1998). A number of diagnostic systems for vehicle maintenance/repair have been developed in recent years. These systems are employed for diagnosing variety of faults in the vehicle and are available at the service level. An attempt to design a commute advisory system that can provide proper assessment of the vehicle for accomplishing a journey/task is presented in pt. I. It incorporates a neural network based incipient fault detector along with the other standard functions. In this work we propose the mathematical model on the framework of the commute adviser referred above and evaluate the performance of the commute advisory system developing an embedded Markov chain (EMC) model. The results show that the proposed approach is reliable in defining/assessing the ability of the vehicle in accomplishing desired commute/mission. Results also indicate gradual degradation in the performance of the vehicle in the presence of number of faults. The system will help reduce the cognitive burden of the commuters; especially in case of ambulatory service commutes and military missions
