Abstract :
This paper describes the guiding principles in the optimization of several IPTV system features: 1) video codec depending on available bitrate; 2) spatial (resolution), quality (processing) and temporal (frame dropping) scalabilities; 3) video preprocessing (smart blurring, denoising and temporal deflickering); 4) video postprocessing (smart sharpening, deringing and temporal deflickering); 5) signal bitrate; 6) signal latency; 7) set-top box power consumption; 8) server power consumption; and 9) IPTV system cost.
