Abstract
We consider the existing conceptual base upon which ODSS is built and propose a means of differentiating it from related systems such as DSS or GDSS. We argue that any such distinction should be based on the difference between the characteristics of groups and organizations. We describe the key problems with the core concepts behind ODSS, and provide a critique from a theoretical perspective that draws on organizational theory and semiotics. We also present certain implications of this approach for practice
