Abstract :
In this work a thermal expanded graphite as field emitter system as a lateral cathode is considered. In such system the emitting surface of the cathode is perpendicular to surfaces of both control electrode (gate) and the anode. This system with lateral cathode has the following advantages: higher ratio of emitting surface area relative to the whole cathode surface area than Spindt cathodes, protection of cathode surface from residual gas ion bombardment, reduction of interelectrode gap capacitance and also a possibility of usage of cost-effective technologies during device manufacturing.
