Abstract :
A pipeline detection & location system with 2% resolution of the total flow was designed and widely applied in long range crude and product oil transmission pipeline in China. It responses to a leak in 3 minutes and its location precision is lower than 2% of the whole length of the pipeline between two stations. Negative pressure wave technique and wavelet transform algorithm, which are two main algorithms applied in the design of the leak detection & location system are briefly discussed in this paper. And emulation analysis was carried out on a 36km pipe with different size leak holes, and application of maiden filter were given to eliminate large pulse noise. Finally, the construction and communication of the system are introduced.
