Abstract
In the present work, physical and technological aspects that helps in the development of super high brightness thermal field emission electron sources are studied. ZrO/W<;100> Schottky cathodes are widely used in various electron probe analytical instruments and units. The normalized brightness (βp) of electron probes formed by electron-optical systems (EOS) of those instruments may reach very high values (up to ~ 108 A/(m sr V) [1]).
