Abstract :
The amplitudes of shear horizontal plate waves generated by EMATs (electromagnetic acoustic transducers) are measured to obtain estimates of the magnetostriction of a steel specimen. The wave amplitude is linked to magnetostriction through an existing model that is modified in the present work to extend its applicability to a broader range of magnetic fields. Measurements with intermediate levels of EMAT currents yield estimates that best agree with strain-gage measurements of the magnetostriction
