Abstract
An algorithm that identifies pre-conjuncts in natural language sentences is described. Syntactic and semantic information is combined to ascertain the size of the syntactic relation that precedes a coordinate conjunction. The approach is not domain specific and relies only on part-of-speech information. Performance results on several corpora are given.
