Abstract
Experimental tests were carried out to determine if there are any noticeable differences in the way premium and standard efficiency motors operate under abnormal voltage conditions such as over voltage under voltage and voltage unbalance. The results for four motors are compared in terms of efficiency and overcurrent conditions and the differences in the performance of the motors are highlighted. In addition, two 3-phase motors were connected to a single phase variable frequency drive and the effect of voltage magnitude deviations on system efficiency was investigated.
