Abstract :
The author describes autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) developments and applications world-wide, AUV development in China, and AUV trends. Besides developments in China, those in the USA, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Japan, and Russia are discussed, such as deep ocean modelling, ocean bottom exploration, ocean bottom sampling, deep ocean work platform, underwater survey, and so on. A testbed facility is described. AUV research topics are outlined
