Abstract
Gel electrophoresis has become an important agent for scientists to study the genetics over the past decades. This paper describes an image processing enhancement approach to analyze the information in gel electrophoresis image. The research aims on developing an automatic technique to identify the lanes and bands. The initial phase in this work is on application of image pre-processing technique to significantly identify lane and band from DNA marker and unknown DNA. The final phase is to measure and estimate the size and length of DNA band by using the curved fitting technique. The system performance was tested using 22 images and the outcomes have shown that the size of each band is successfully identified.
