Abstract
An extensive survey of the local engineering community was conducted as part of the development of the Engineering Management Program at the University of Alberta. The information gleaned from the survey, combined with results from similar surveys, was used to evaluate the present academic program. The resulting data provide a basis to discuss questions such as the relevance of local flavor in program design. One of the questions considered was whether it is the role of an engineering management program to provide the participants with tools and techniques that are immediately applicable at the local workplace, or whether the programs should be serving some wider constituency
