Abstract :
Alexandria Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) serves about 1.2 million consumers on the medium voltage and low voltage. This network is fed from 22 substations with a total installed capacity of 2000 MVA. The components of the network include: 127 medium voltage switch boards, 6060 km medium voltage cables, 10690 km low voltage overhead and underground cables and 4310 distribution transformers. The total annual sale amounts to 3420 M.kWH. To secure a high degree of reliability for the customer service and to meet the receiving large load growth, AEDC conducted a rehabilitation plan to the distribution network. To meet the requirements of the user, AEDC undertook some activities such as: technical support-periodical technical inspections of the installations at the user side to improve the service reliability; energy conservation-installation of capacitor banks at the end user and at the network to improve the power factor and also installation of energy efficient lighting systems; and power quality-measurements were carried out for industrial, commercial and residential loads in detecting the existing level of the power quality. This paper presents the results of measurements for power quality: harmonics, voltage variation and remedies. Also the recommendations remedies which were carried out are stated.
