Abstract :
The issues that influence the career growth of technologists in the dynamic environment are studied. The results of a survey of such issues conducted among seven different high-technology companies in the US are reported. The results identify a distinct set of skills as being important for managers and technical personnel. The skill set varies significantly among the two groups. This variation raises important questions about the utility of university education programs and on-the-job training programs
