Abstract :
Spatial pattern of building height is important to urban planning and land management. In this article, Buildings´ three-dimensional information was extracted from QuickBird image using Barista software in Tiexi District, Shenyang, China. We divided the study area into 457 blocks (each block is 300 mx300 m) and calculated the average building height, then studied the spatial pattern using exploratory spatial data analysis (ESDA) method. The findings reveal that average building height is distributed not spatial randomness but positive spatial autocorrelation, its spatial distribution is relative to the land use type and the distance to city center. High-high type of average building height is clustered in first ring road area and commercial district; low-low type is located far away from the city center and mainly in industrial park.
