Abstract
We propose two dynamic caching schemes of media suffix based on recently presented optimized batch patching (OBP), IC-BP and PA-BP, to alleviate the over-consumption of backbone bandwidth in media streaming systems, and derived the required average bandwidth, average server channels used and the maximum cache capacity of the respective scheme when dealing with an unique media object. We also analyzed the aggregate delivery cost of the above schemes by defining a simple cost function, the results showed that both schemes significantly reduce the backbone bandwidth consumption and the server load and thus the delivery cost is saved, while PA-BP outperforms IC-BP with the lowest cost in the three schemes in that it reduces the patch traffic by using an additional buffer to pre-buffer the incoming data in case requests arrived in the current batch interval and therefore save more transmission cost than IC-BP.
