Abstract
This paper identifies a sliding mode for every linear state feedback control system. Based on this finding, a new control method is proposed. The method combines the convenience of any known linear state feedback design and the robustness of the variable structure control (VSC). The resulting VSC system has only the sliding mode but no reaching mode. Therefore the state dynamics of the new VSC system are totally invariant. A motor position control scheme which uses this new VSC method is included to show the merit of the method
