Abstract
The unexpected failure of equipment that stops production in industrial plants can be very expensive. This paper presents an expert system that was developed to assist nonexpert personnel to reduce the amount of time that a steel mill is out of production due to equipment failures. The expert system implemented provides the user with step-by-step test and repair information so that the machine can be fixed in minimum time at minimum cost
