Abstract :
The concept of wireless-local-loop (WLL) has been attracting a lot of interest these last years which have seen an upsurge in suggestions ranging from analog and digital cellular, to digital cordless and to proprietary technologies. Although they may address different market populations, TDMA-based DECT and DS-CDMA technologies appear for the present as the main contenders. DECT is an European standard using a proven technology, with commercial products already on the market, whereas DS-CDMA proposals, mostly based on proprietary systems, are viewed by some as immature and unproven. Results from the simulation of a DECT-based WLL system are presented and discussed. Most of the results are presented in terms of achievable GOS. The latter is in terms of the base station (BS) antenna directivity, offered traffic with percentages of mixed users and number of transceivers at every BS site. The use of adaptive antennas is also compared with fixed sectoring, i.e. 3×120
