  • Abstract
The space-time difference between Lingnan waterside village (the representatives of Lingnan regional characteristic) and modern cities is narrowing as time passes by. And the newly emerging waterside villages and towns cannot reflect the special style and features of Lingnan water village. The author, after studying the patterns and linear space-time conception of the very few remaining waterside villages - Fengjian and Gaozan, put forward that Lingnan water village was deeply affected by the space-time ideology of ancient China. There is linear and four-dimensional space-time conception in Lingnan waterside villages and this conception is different from that of west modern netty cities. The essential difference in shape between Lingnan waterside villages and modern cities indicates that it is not advisable to blindly use the west modern city planning as reference in the reconstruction of waterside villages, which will result in disappearance of both the space dissimilation and linear space-time conception of Lingnan waterside villages.
