Abstract :
The paper is focused on a realization of a rotation-thrust drive based on a helical reluctance motor. The new actuator consists of a single three-phase stator winding system, a helical air-gap structure and a massive rotor wherein eddy-currents are induced, which can produce a torque additionally to the thrust. Special control methods with superposed rotating and alternating field components are discussed theoretically and experimental results for the stationary properties are given. Both forces are suitable for combined rotary-linear movement in two directions
