Abstract :
After the electrical energy rationing shock, it was observed the real and imminent need to diversify the electrical energy generation sources and its rational usage in Brazil. Today, research focuses on several new generation sources, such as the wind energy, which is a promising alternative, and whose implementation is stimulated by the Brazilian governmental program PROINFA. This study addresses such theme, focusing on the fact that the wind energy generation reaches its best performance through a doubly fed induction generator using back-to-back PWM converters with DC intermediate circuit, using vector control. A comparison of costs is carried out involving two different alternatives for the electrical system of a wind turbine, in order to point out the savings obtained with the doubly fed induction generator (DFIG), when contrasted with the squirrel cage induction generator. This study also presents a simulation of wind energy generation connection to the ENERSUL SA net at two distinct points, with studies of steady state and short-circuit: in Navirai, with 2 MVA, and in Campo Grande, with 15 MVA.
