Abstract
This paper describes an initial investigation which focused on the technical conditions of connecting power facilities from 1 MW to 10 MW onto MV power systems. Wind power plants, and the technical connection conditions for installations larger than 10 MW on MV power systems, are now being examined. The results of these investigations show that the development of decentralised power generating schemes connected to networks initially designed to distribute electricity poses numerous problems. As long as this generation remains marginal in relation to consumption, it can be evaluated under acceptable conditions, thanks to the capacity of the receiving power system; as soon as it grows beyond the marginal level, the problems to be solved bring the actual design of these power systems into question. This is a particularly sensitive issue for rural distribution networks where problems concerning protection schemes and, above all, voltage stability are worrying.
