Abstract :
Reduction of energy consumption in electrical auxiliary system (EAS) of steam power plants leads to considerable energy conservation that can be fed into a network. To reach this goal, two definite suggestions i.e. tap setting of transformers and installation of reactive power compensators have been presented, and analyzed from many aspects for unit 1 of NEKA steam power plant in Iran. Studies performed by means of a developed program, showed that implementing the suggested ideas leads to the significant energy saving over the lifespan of the power plant. The developed program provides a tool to determine optimal tap setting and reactive power compensators for any steam power plant.
