Abstract :
The paper presents a simplified PV model to assist in developing low cost MPPT controller in applications employing mini solar panels. High power drain of the control electronics is prohibitive for such low power application. Theoretical insight assisted by practical test data has been used to develop an equivalent Thevenin´s model where the Thevenin´s resistance is nonlinear and voltage dependent. The approach has provided a new MPPT criterion in terms of equivalent resistance that is both novel and useful in developing a controller that tracks the maximum power point under dynamic conditions.
