Abstract :
Summary form only given. Semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs) provide very high gain non-linearity. Gain saturated SOAs have been employed for all-optical wavelength conversion up to 20 Gb/s and for all-optical TDM demultiplexing at higher bit rates. Studies have indicated that with optimization of signal power and bias current even higher speeds of operation can be achieved. In this paper we study two schemes of (using SOA based) wavelength converters by comparing their performance on on-off ratios, recovery times and generated phase shift
