  • Abstract
The urban heat island has affected humanity´s life seriously. Thermal remote sensing provides a new method for observation and mechanism analysis of urban heat island. The paper analyzed space distributional rules and the cause of formation of urban thermal space in Chongqing by using Landsat ETM of 2001. The result indicates that there are four centers of heat island in Chongqing city, mainly in industrial region, commercial and residential areas. The spatial distribution pattern of land use/cover affects the distributional pattern of the urban heat space. The following effective measures are proposed to solve the Chongqing heat island, including strengthening urban planning, increasing urban green coverage rate, controlling plant emissions and rational use of water resources.
