Abstract
This paper presents a study related to the design of supplementary controllers for stabilizing and damping electromechanical oscillations on a long radial power system. Power system stabilizers (PSSs) in generators and a supplementary controller in a static Var compensator (SVC) are tuned. The power system is based on a new interconnected Brazilian network, including a transmission corridor which links Manaus and Macapa load centers to Tucurui power station. Some scenarios are evaluated based on particularities observed during the year period at each region. Tests on the system are carried out and controllers are adjusted for the critical scenario. When equipped with the additional signals adjusted, nonlinear simulations show that the global system passes from an unstable position to a stable state, with good performance. Results show the feasibility of the transmission corridor, in spite of the long distance between Manaus and Tucurui.
