  • Abstract
LTE-the Portuguese electric utility-has proceeded with an MV power system (30 kV and 10 kV) control scheme , according to a company strategy defined on the bases of better service quality provision to its clients and minimisation of interruption time. Using the present SCADA systems, open systems, integrated into a global information network, in corporation with other systems and with DMS applications (distribution management system), it was considered fundamental that the MV power network control should be integrated on the existing SCADA scheme in the distribution centres (DC). For the choice of the points on the network to be controlled, the authors have considered the network characteristics, the installed power, the type and number of clients, incident quantification, etc., for the determination of the most favourable technical/economical solution. As a communication support, they used several solutions, such as radio, dedicated telephone lines, commuted telephone lines or distribution line carriers (DLC), that aid the network control system in the command centre, and determine the location of the incident and isolate the affected network
