Abstract
At present, CESP has 548 pole-type recloser units in its 13.8 kV and 34.5 kV distribution system, acquired within a period of 20 years. Annually, with the LDs (distribution line) and LDRs (rural distribution line) extensions to attend new connections and/or strengthen the distribution system, in some conditions there is an increase of temporary failures influenced, for instance, by the high Keraunic level of some regions, that make it feasible the installation of reclosers through the increase in operational cost of the system and in the cost of electric energy supply. On the other hand, with the alterations made in the power system configurations and adequate cleaning of LDs stretch, some lines show no longer the need of a recloser due to few well succeeded automatic operations. Based on this fact, and because of the availability operation data (data bank of interruptions, recloser performance file, etc.) it was possible to systematically rationalize the reclosers use in the distribution system of CESP
