Abstract
The countries that have reshaped their electricity sectors, established as one of their objectives increasing competition between generation suppliers and retailers while maintaining transmission and distribution as a regulated monopoly. The consequence is the unbundling or these segments and the need to determine a business model for each one. This paper addresses the transmission business model in the present institutional environment, as well its importance to the grid expansion success. The solution adopted by Brazil to make viable the implantation of planned installations is also discussed
