Abstract
Some aspects of using deflection routing in a hypercube network architecture has been considered. The issue of hardware design of a deflection switch with contention resolution rules has been explored with the help of components which are available in the optical domain. The use of two toggle switches has shown the implementation of a protocol based alternate priority which is free from any deflection loop. Simulation results are presented for the (64,2,6,) hypercube in which deflection routing without any contention resolution protocol is used. The performance gains in terms of the throughput and average number of hops have been evaluated for different traffic conditions and switch storage capacities
